1993 Land Rover Defender 110 TATC

Back in 1983 two old friends and travelling buddies met and found a common bond with a love of Land Rover Defenders while travelling through Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. They worked in Zambia in the 80’s at numerous safari camps and wildlife reserves. Accessing some of Africa’s remotest areas it was here that they found out how capable and tough these trucks were. While working in the Middle East, they followed the pursuit of 4×4 backcountry adventures. They even spent some time in the Northern Territory of Australia, exclusively using Defenders to access the Outback. Maintaining some of the most hardest to get to tracks and dirt roads, the conditions were brutal and these trucks brushed off everything that was thrown at them with ease. The 2 friends joined forces to create the Transatlantic Trading Company (TATC) to share their passion and to build the best Land Rover Defenders possible in the US. TATC draws upon their combined experience, coupled with over 70 years of Land Rover heritage. The TATC team lovingly restores some of the very best iconic Defenders available. The mission at TATC is to build these trucks better than they were when they first left the factory, and most importantly to last the next 25 years and to pass on to the next generation.

Our 1993 Land Rover Defender was fully restored, down to the chassis. Our left-hand drive Land Rover Defender 110 underwent a full restoration by UK based TATC, which was completed in late 2020. The exterior is finished in Corris Grey. There are less than 2,500 miles on the fully rebuilt and reconditioned Turner engineering 200 TDI, Ashcroft transmission and transfer box. 1987 Land Rover Defender 110 Arkonik

Gaswerks Garage is pleased to present our 1987 Land Rover Defender 110 Arkonik. The 110 was launched in 1983. From 1984, wind-up windows were fitted (Series models and very early 110s had sliding panels), and a 2.5-liter (153 cu in), 68 horsepower diesel engine was introduced. This was based on the earlier 2.3-liter (140 cu in) engine, but had a more modern fuel-injection system as well as increased capacity. This period saw Land Rover market the utility Land Rover as a private recreational vehicle. While the basic pick-up, 4×4 and van versions were still working vehicles, the County 4x4s were sold as multi-purpose family vehicles, featuring improved interior trim and more comfortable seats. This change was reflected in Land Rover starting what had long been common practice in the car industry — detail changes and improvements to the County model from year to year in order to attract new buyers and to encourage existing owners to trade in for a new vehicle. These changes included different exterior styling graphics and color options, and the introduction of new options, such as radio-cassette players, Rostyle wheels, headlamp wash and wipe systems, as well as accessories such as surfboard carriers and bike racks. The switch from leaf spring to coil spring suspension was a key part of the new model’s success. It offered improved off-road ability, load capacity, handling and ride comfort.
