Development of the Porsche 914 was steered by Ferdinand Piëch, grandson of Ferdinand Porsche and the executive responsible for Porsche’s legendary 917. Presented in its originally specified and rare color, this 914 has appeared in books and magazines and garnered prestigious concours awards, including recognition at the highest level in 1995, when it won a coveted Porsche Club of America Manhattan Circle Trophy, the club’s premier concours honor at the time. The same year, the 914 was featured in Porsche Panorama magazine and, in 2006, it was the cover car for Brian Long’s definitive history of the 914.

The consignor, a longtime Porsche expert and author who has known the car since the 1990s, believes the 914’s current mileage of just under 13,000 to be original. He states that only minimal, as-needed restoration work has been done, and the car retains many correct and hard-to-find parts. Documentation includes a concours judging sheet as well as maintenance records dating to 1990, including those for mechanical work performed to bring the car out of storage in 2012 after it had been parked since 1995.

Today, this 914 is offered with an owner’s manual, Porsche COA, tool kit, spare tire, jack. Trophies and ribbons are included, as well as copies of images from the 1995 Manhattan Circle. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a highly awarded and very attractive 914.

1972 Porsche 914

The Porsche 914-6 is a mid-engined sports car designed, manufactured and marketed collaboratively by Volkswagen and Porsche from 1969 to 1976. By the late 1960s, both Volkswagen and Porsche were in need of new models; Porsche was looking for a replacement for their entry-level 912, and Volkswagen wanted a new range-topping sports coupe to replace the Karmann Ghia coupe. Through their collaboration, the Porsche 914 was born. The 914 was available in two configurations, the standard 914 with VW 4-cylinder air cooled engine, or the 914-6 with a 911 flat six engine. The 914-6 was the ultimate sleeper of it’s time.

Many hours went into creating this masterpiece that just received First Place at the 2019 Amelia Island Concours. Powered by a 2.9 liter Twin plug engine that our master tech Gaspare built, producing 270HP! The upgrades and amount of high quality parts are so extensive that they are listed below this writeup. A few notable features are: 2.9L Twin Plug Flat Six, 46 MM PMO Carbs, ARP Bolts & Studs, MK Full Exhaust and much more…The car drives like new and is incredibly fun to drive.

Step inside and you will notice how the exterior flows seamlessly into the interior thanks to the unique idea of leaving the rocker panels painted Gold Metallic on the interior. The floor pan, rear firewall are also painted Gold Metallic. Not only does this look great but it saves weight since there is less carpeting used. The oil cooler lines were carefully routed through the interior and look very cool exposed near the pedal box. The black seats with contrast stitching and door cards were handmade and look fantastic against the Gold Metallic interior and exterior paint. You will find no rips or stains throughout, the interior is absolutely flawless because it’s brand new – as is the whole car! All hardware was Cadium Plated which gives the components a “Gold” appearance. Even the 911 style gauge surrounds were Cadium Plated – something we thought would be very unique to the build. The gauges include a 150MPH Speedo, 10K Tach and a custom 3 cluster oil/temp gauge. The finishing touch to the interior was the installation of a Momo Prototipo steering wheel – the best looking steering wheel for any early Porsche.

On the exterior this car had a proper GT Widebody conversion using metal flares. The wheels are 7” Fronts and 9” Rears with TB15 Tires to give the car a period correct look. Other exterior features include Carrera brakes with vented rotors.
