As February winds down and spring will soon be upon us, we are very excited for what 2018 has in store for Gaswerks Garage and thrilled to share it all with our fellow enthusiasts!
Recently, customers have been asking questions regarding grinding gears and where this problem stems from. In short, the transmission is where the problem can be found, but when diving deeper the problem is more complex.
When shifting, you are engaging the gears which then use “Engagement Teeth” and a Syncro to perform the shift. Without these parts, drivers would be required to double clutch and rev match when shifting, a processes that is tedious and difficult. Depending on the level of usage and wear and tear an owner puts on the car, there can be damage to these small but yet vital parts of the transmission. As time goes on the teeth can be worn down, giving the driver the grinding feedback while shifting. It is a common misconception that it is the gears themselves that are grinding when in fact it is the small engagement teeth pictured below that are causing the sensation.
At Gaswerks Garage, we are capable of fully restoring these small pieces and alleviate the grinding sensation. By restoring the transmission, drivers can also make sure that there are no leaks or other issues with the essential part.
Outside of providing customers with excellent service experience throughout their vehicle’s stay at the garage, one of our goals is to share our passion with others. One of the best ways to do this is through events. Our events are open to fellow Porsche enthusiasts and owners and are aimed to further embrace all things Porsche.
Our first event was held in May 2017 where we welcomes owners into the garage to see the newly established site and see some of the current and past projects that Gaspare had been working on at the time. This friendly atmosphere accompanied with food and refreshments allowed customers the chance to talk to Gaspare in a more personal setting.
A few months later in October Gaspare and his team welcomes Luxury Marketing students from Susquehanna University to give them insight to the business side of Gaswerks Garage and the different strategies that go into marketing a small luxury business. Both these events are examples of the small forum events we love to hold. These events allow for open discussion and great experiences for the customers and us. In the future we look forward to holding more similar events. Some events we are in the processes of finalizing are a Gaswerks Garage Sunday Drive, participating in the next Prestige Family of Fine Cars’ “Cars and Coffee”, and hosting local photographers to a Gaswerks Garage Photo Event.
We also look forward to participating in other Porsche events including David Murry Track Days, Luftgekühlt 5, New Canaan Caffeine & Carburetors, the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, and many more!
We look forward to hosting these events and welcoming others to our shop. We love working on these cars as well as sharing our passion for Porsche with others. Thanks for reading this latest blog post and we look forward to seeing you at our next event!
There is no way to describe the value of these vehicles to the owners. Yes, each one has its price, but the true value is the feeling you get when you are cruising down a windy road in your Porsche on a perfect summer day. We all dream of days like those.
While we strive to ensure every car that comes through Gaswerks Garage is restored to that level of perfection, we also make sure vehicles within our facility are kept safe. A common gripe owners will share with us is that their cars are kept outdoors in harsh weather; or the facility they have it being worked on is not well kept or located in a safe location. That is not the case at Gaswerks Garage. Because we understand the value and meaning these cars have to their owners, we truly do care for them as our own.
Every evening all the cars are moved inside the shop to ensure no weather or other elements can damage them. While being store inside, none of the cars are “squished” in but rather safely parked in an organized fashion to ensure every vehicle is spaced properly for easy access and safekeeping.
To further ensure the cars are well kept, we only take on projects when we are ready to work on them. This helps us with storing and maintain the vehicles while in the shop, but also assures your car won’t be in the shop for months before it begins having work done. No one wants to have their car just sitting in a facility collecting dust and we always make sure every car in the shop is being worked on regularly and not just waiting in line.
We also ensure our facility is cleaned every day by staff to keep the shop in pristine condition. Keeping the shop exceptionally clean is important as it allows us to work in a better environment but it also provides customers the opportunity to come in to see their car being worked on in a spotless shop.
Our shop is also conveniently located in Paramus, New Jersey, and area that sees less extreme weather and other environmental conditions.
All of these efforts are what separate Gaspare and gasworks garage from other shops. Our attention to detail and careful handling of vehicles are second to none. Most importantly, these efforts keep the owners mind at ease when the car is not within their own garage. The last thing any owner wants is to hear that their car was damaged while in the shop.
The site of seeing a dirt-covered engine out of a car is never a good sign, but in Gaswerks Garage, it is the first step in our engine rebuilds process. Gaspare carefully removes every engine he works on from its vehicle so he can examine every detail in close proximity. Removing the engines allows him a complete 360 degree view of the engine and ample space to work with compare to being in the rear of a vintage Porsche. As Gaspare and his team survey the project they are then able to assess the work that needs to be done including complete mechanical and cosmetic rebuild.
Using acidic baths and vapor techniques, Gaspare and his team are able to take the old parts and make them look like new. These delicate techniques help to make them clean and function properly, but the also preserve the details including emblems and other markings that authenticate them as real Porsche parts.
As seen in the videos below, these engines look as if they are brand new and run the same. Gaspare goes through various tests to make sure each engine he works on is in condition to be put back in the vehicle. Checking for timing on the engine pulley using a strobe light, monitoring the oil pressure, and checking for ignition spark are some of the essential elements that Gaspare focuses on.
Once the pre ignition checks are completed the engine is ready to “Light off”, as Gaspare would say. There is something special about seeing how well one of these motors runs. From the smell of burning oil to the sound of engine revs, the whole experience is one any owner should witness.
